On December 12, 2019, the highest officials of the state - President Zelenskyi, the then Minister of Internal Affairs Avakov, Prosecutor General Ryaboshapka - accused without evidence a military man, singer Andrii Antonenko - Riffmaster, military nurse Yana Dugar, children's surgeon, volunteer Yulia Kuzmenko of the murder of journalist Pavlo Sheremet.
A fabricated case drags innocent people through the courts for three years without objective evidence of guilt.
On trumped-up charges, Andriy Antonenko spent 505 days behind bars, Yulia — 244 days, Yana was constantly restricted by various preventive measures.
The so-called "Sheremet case" became the most resonant among those cases that have signs of a political order. Instead of saving children's hearts, cardiologist Yuliya Kuzmenko was behind bars, instead of working with the military, Andriy Antonenko was in the 4 walls of Lukyanivskyi SIZO, and Yana Dugar, instead of protecting Ukraine, was in the courts of Kyiv.
The search for justice will continue for a long time, because the case will be re-examined due to the refusal of two jurors to continue participating in the process. A new division of the case between the judges and the selection of the jury must take place.
The Shevchenkiv District Court has already reviewed 26 volumes of the investigation, partly defense materials, and 262 witnesses remained to be questioned. However, the full-scale war put the proceedings on hold.
The public demands to start searching for the real killers, withdraw the charges and stop mocking the volunteers and defenders of Ukraine.
