We met Maksym under the usual circumstances of the realities of 2021, when citizens came out to Bankova, near Shevchenkivskyi and Pecherskyi courts, the police department, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs to defend the rule of law and to support volunteers, veterans, and activists persecuted by the authorities. In particular, Maksym also became a victim of the arbitrariness of law enforcement and judicial bodies - the volunteer was detained during an action in support of Serhiy Sternenko in Kyiv.
During the detention, he was beaten by law enforcement officers. The investigator tried to accuse Maksym of beating a police officer, and accordingly, criminal proceedings were opened under Art. 342 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - resistance to a law enforcement officer. In the end, thanks to the painstaking work of lawyers and the public, which came to Maksym's defense immediately after the detention, it was possible to pull the activist out of the clutches of the police.
In the first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Maksym volunteered for the second time to go to war. Later, he was a talented poet, published his own collection “Poems from the Battlefield”, and became the author of the lyrics for the song “Yellow Scotch”. Volunteer of the Right Sector (autumn 2014 – autumn 2015). In 2015-2018, he served as a senior machine gunner in the Rapid Reaction Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine.
An irreparable loss for the future of Ukraine. Our condolences to the family and loved ones.
