Yesterday, the Lviv City Council supported an appeal to the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Razumkov, the Minister of Internal Affairs Avakov, and the Prosecutor General Venediktova to create a TSC in the Sheremet case in the Verkhovna Rada and take action to change the preventive measure for Andriy Antonenko.
Full text of the appeal:
To the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine
Mr. D. Razumkov
To the Minister of Internal Affairs
Mr. A. Avakov
To the Prosecutor General of Ukraine
Mrs. I. Venediktova
As of today, the Ukrainian law enforcement system is considering a case that has gained considerable resonance, and its investigation has received mixed reviews among lawyers, the public, combatants, and human rights organizations. We are talking about the following case.
The case of the murder of Pavel Sheremet, in which sergeant of the 3rd Special Forces Regiment Andriy Antonenko (pseudonym Rifmaster) is accused. Many lawyers note that the evidentiary base of his involvement in the murder is insufficient, and the published audio recordings of conversations of the head of the State Security Committee of Belarus, Vadim Zaitsev, indicate that the Belarusian special services probably planned the murder of Sheremet back in 2008-2012.
As of today, Andriy Antonenko, who has a family and children, is being held in a pre-trial detention center.
Considering the above, and in light of the appeal of the participants in the fighting in Lviv, in order to preserve the honor and dignity of the Ukrainian soldier, we ask you to do the following:
- Take all necessary actions within your competence to change the preventive measure for Andriy Antonenko to one that is not related to detention in a pre-trial detention center.
- Create an effective temporary investigative commission to objectively investigate this criminal proceeding, taking into account new facts that may affect the course of the investigation.
- Take personal control of this case to prevent manipulation of public opinion and ensure that investigators in this case take a thorough approach to these investigations.
Let us remind you, The public addressed an open letter to the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, parliamentary factions and groups with a demand to support the creation of a Temporary Investigative Commission to investigate the murder of Pavel Sheremet.
