Yesterday, the Lviv Regional Council adopted an appeal to the President of Ukraine, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine regarding the verdict against Sternenko.
“We consider the verdict of the Primorsky District Court of Odessa, on the basis of which Ukrainian activist Serhiy Sternenko was sent to prison for 7 years and 3 months on charges of kidnapping, to be unfair and unfounded. The indictment was based on the testimony of the head of the Odessa branch of the pro-Russian Rodina party Serhiy Shcherbych. This is another demonstration that the judicial system in Ukraine has turned into an instrument of pressure and the elimination of people inconvenient for the authorities,” the statement says. The deputies demand an impartial consideration of the appeal in Serhiy’s case and proper reform of the judicial system.
The Lviv Regional Council also adopted an appeal initiated by the Capitulation Resistance Movement to the Prosecutor General and the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada regarding the change of jurisdiction in the Sheremet case, regarding the creation of a special commission in the Verkhovna Rada in this case, and regarding the change of Antonenko's preventive measure. And yesterday, a similar appeal was supported by the Poltava District Council.
