Law enforcement officers have initiated criminal proceedings against the defender of Kyiv, the commander of the first DFTG Oleksandr Chekmaz - at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, more than 600 volunteers under his coordination defended the Brovary direction. The investigation accuses “Hedgehog” of not registering uncertified bulletproof vests of dubious quality, which were handed over by Polish volunteers in the spring of 2022.
The purpose of the case is to frame the combat commander under serious accusations, ignoring facts that refute his involvement in any crime.
🔺 Oleksandr was deprived of the legal opportunity to register bulletproof vests. Moreover, registering personal protective equipment for servicemen without relevant documents on the quality of such equipment is a crime. After all, bulletproof vests accepted for registration by a military unit are actually forcibly worn by soldiers. When law enforcement officers appeared with searches at Oleksandr Chekmaz's house, he brought them to the warehouse where the bulletproof vests were stored. However, the investigation did not conduct any examination or certification of the bulletproof vests. Instead, "Hedgehog" was charged with misappropriation of military property.
Oleksandr Chekmaz is charged under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The combat commander faces imprisonment for a term of seven to twelve years, although over the course of more than a year of investigation, not a single case of Chekmaz selling bulletproof vests or using all 300 bulletproof vests for personal needs has been recorded.
The dishonest actions of the prosecutor's office and law enforcement agencies are aimed at discrediting and criminalizing a person who serves the defense of Ukraine.
